Short Stories
April 2023
I have written a number of short stories, some of which have won competitions and been published. Here's a list of some of my tales, most of which tend to have either a magical element or twist in the tale:
* Revelations - how an ill-fated relationship is redeemed in the end.
* Finn's Wife - when two people vanish while on a bid-watching trip, the question remains...what became of them?
* The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon - What if a young boy believes aliens have taken over his parents' minds?
* What Immortal Hand - In a possible near future...the very last two wild tigers in the world are about to mate, observed by a dedicated American naturalist; but a desperately poor Tibetan man needs to find, kill and sell a tiger to raise enough money to send his sick child - the future Dali Llama - to a real hospital.
* The Elixir - two young men take unusual paths in life. One has early-onset ageing disease and needs a cure, while his friend is determined to find that cure. Perhaps time travel will help...
* The Black Goat - a simpleton in a poor village in Java loses the black goat meant for sacrifice to appease the volcano god.
* The Place Where Time Stops - A quasi-religious guru is teaching a young female acolyte how to find the place where time stops, freeing one to live fully.
* Cobble - a thief with a suitcase full of stolen cash hides out in an abandoned farmhouse - but is it really totally empty?
* Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) - a boy buys a strange artefact in an antique shop - it's not a telescope, he's told, but a 'seeing glass'. It seems to also 'see' into the future by five minutes. But what if one sees something like - murder being (or about to be) committed?
* The King of Apples - a little girl needs to save her family apple farm, but who can help her raise the necessary funds?
* Something Appalling - a ghost story about a murderer and his victim.
* The Great Cheshire Cheese Caper - my explanation for where the 'Hickory Dickory Dock' nursery rhyme originated.
* Hell Day - a saleswoman who, with good reason, loathes her horrible boss, finally decides to kill him, but can she succeed?
These and more will be published soon in one full collection entitled 'Twist in the Tail'.
